Appreciated by the Greeks, the Taurasi wine takes its name from the ancient city where it was produced: Taurasia, an epicentre in the valley of Calore, already famous in the Roman period for its 'vigne optime'. The Taurasi is obtained from the grapes of one of the most prestigious vineyards of national oenology, the Aglianico, the ancient Hellenic vines, to which other red non aromatic grapes are added to a maximum of 15%.
The Taurasi Docg is accompanied by particularly elaborated dishes, such as baked lamb with potatoes. Traditionally it was also served with lasagne prepared in Neapolitan way. The aged version is ideal with red meat, roast beef and mature Pecorino cheese. The Taurasi DOCG is served in chalices for red wines with tannic volume at a temperature of 18°C.
