Marostica is a world-renowned locality for its famous living chess game, but this small town is known also for its cherries. In this area and in the agricultural economy of the territory, cherry cultivation, in fact, is very important and has characterized the landscape for the longest time. In the early Fifties there was already a cherry market in Mason Vicentino where they harvested and sold the entire produce of the area. At the end of the Fifties the premises for the organization of the production were created thanks to the birth of the fruit preservation Association of Mason Vicentino. The construction of the sheds for harvesting, the processing and marketing of the cherries goes back to the beginning of the Sixties and 1969 saw the constitution of yet another association in order to specially organize the cherry producers. The production of the Marostica cherry occurs almost exclusively in a hilly area on fertile soils rich in potash, that ensure a sweet and savoury product.
In addition to the traditional fresh consummation, cherries are used as ingredients for cakes, fruit salads, jams, syrups and other delicious preparations. The consummation of cherries kept under brandy or sprinkled with sherry or red wine is also particularly indicated.

On every packing there is the indication 'Ciliega di Marostica Igp' and the authorized logo that represents a red cherry with a green stalk placed upon a medieval tower representing the chess piece, in order to make the product immediately recognizable.
