Since 1992, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Doc has been able to include the indication of the subzone "Colline Teramane" in its name. This refers to the wine produced in the hillside terrain of the Province of Teramo. Eleven years later, recognition finally arrived, including Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane in that small and special group of wines that carry the Italian Docg appellation. The grapevine used for making this wine is a native plant of the Abruzzo area. It should not be confused with the similar sounding Tuscan city of Montepulciano. The wines made from this vine are fruity with naturally soft tannins, have a good alcohol level and achieve a high level of respect on the national and international enological scene. This Docg is also produced as a "Riserva,” reserve wine.
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Docg should be served in “ballon” wine glasses at a temperature of 16-18 °C. From the culinary standpoint, it is best suited to drinking with boiled, braised and roasted meats, fine poultry and pastas made with aged cheeses.
Every label must mention the Docg- Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin next to all the other indications required by law. These are: the product’s region of provenance; denomination of the product along with the variety of grape and the geographical zone in which it is grown; nominal volume of the wine; name, type of company and address of the bottlers; number and code of the bottlers (which could appear on the cork or seal) name of the state; batch details; ecological details.
