The term 'Lametia' is the modern denomination of the ancient geographical area known as 'Laconia' which was part of the Magna Grecia. The land is very interesting for its historic and environmental importance: both the littoral ones for the tourism activities and the hills, the inhabitants of which call it Lamezia Terme. The cultivation of olives in this area has developed greatly as from the 60s, with the introduction of modern techniques and represents today one of the first sectors of the local economy.
Lametia oil has a delicate taste and aroma, and blends well with fish based dishes and salads, due to its characteristics of extreme equilibrium.
The product label displays the official insignia of the consortium and the wording "Denominazione di origine protetta Lametia," followed by the European Community Dop identification mark.
