"We wanted to extend the controls throughout the production chain of Brunello di Montalcino for another six months to maintain the flow of exports to the United States of this great ambassador of 'Made in Italy', and to strengthen confidence in the Italian controls, which we've exported along with the quality and whole someness of our food products."
With these words Luca Zaia, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policy, commented on the signing of the decision extending the deadline for implementing the provisions contained in the Decree of July 3, 2008 until 30 June 2010. He also adopted measures to strengthen the system of controls in the production chain of Brunello di Montalcino and safe guard exports to the USA.
"The extension, from December 31, 2009 to June 30, 2010, of the specific control procedures implemented by the Central Inspectorate for Quality Control of Food and Agricultural Products," said Minister Zaia, "represents an additional guarantee for the protection of our quality products and for the image of a wine with a history and an ancient tradition."
