The Bardolino wine road

vigneti sul lago di garda

The Bardolino grape variety flourishes in the suggestive territory of Gardesana Veronese, to which the mild climate has donated fertile hills planted with vines, fruit trees and olive groves.

To this internationally appreciated red wine is dedicated a wine road, that passes through many small and fine producing centers, along a charming and recommended itinerary.

The track starts at the homonymous lake-town, one of the most lovely places of the area, which has gained the nickname smiling eye of the lake because of its position in the middle of the shore of the olive groves. A winding itinerary starts from here and extends for about seventy kilometers, leading the tourist to all the towns situated along the Garda lakeshore and into the hinterland that includes Doc and the Docg areas, such as: Marciaga, Castion, S. Colombano, Affi, Cavaion, Cisano, Cordevigo, Lasize, Bussolengo, Pastrengo, Sandrà, Palazzolo, Ronchi, Castelnuovo and Sona, besides Bardolino, mentioned above.

To this tour of the wineries and producers that still make wine the traditional way, one must add a visit to the extraordinary historical and artistic heritage that Lake Garda Veronese offers. Ancient and precious churches (that are often small Romanesque masterpieces), medieval castles, noble villas and cloisters give an idea of how this area was, a long time ago, a desired destination for emperors, monks and aristocratic families.
