In the pastures of Lessinia, history blends with flavours

Paesaggio dei Monti Lessini

A natural gem set in an area that takes in the province of Verona, Vicenza and Trento, the Lessinia Natural Park includes centres and localities of great naturalistic, historical and folk interest.

The high lineage of its wines (Recioto and Amarone della Valpolicella), along with its excellent cheeses (Monte Veronese) and other delicacies to be found in the Prealps, make it a choice destination for food lovers all over the world.

In the heart of the park, Boscochiesanuova is known for its human settlements dating back to the Palaeolithic period and for its cuisine, which exalts the mountain flavours in the best way possible. Of the recipes of this area, we recommend tasting the delicious gnocchi sbatui, a more flavourful variation of our gnocchi.

Going a little further north toward a landscape of green mountain pastures, we come upon Erbezzo, an ancient Cimbrian municipality, where the customs and practices ofthe place are still those of long ago. During the summer season, one can taste the typical local cheese Monte Veronese, produced with milk from the pastures of Lessini Mountains, and made in the Alpine outbuildings known as malghe

Continuing along the route (just 15 km), still on the trail of good local cuisine, healthy air, and pristine nature, we come across the picturesque village of Sant'annad'Alfaedo. Here too the territory is smattered with archaeologicalfinds dating back to the Neolithic period, and the earth still renders up thefossil remains of huge reptiles, which are exhibited in the Santa Anna Museum.

Considering its beauty andmarvellous natural tourist attractions, the natural bridge, Ponte di Veja, is withouta doubt one of the most characteristic geological phenomena of the Lessinia Park. Once on  the spot, the visitor sees  a massive rock bridge and arch, approximately 9 meters thick and 50 meters long, with astream flowing underneath.

Other natural beauties of this area are the Corno d'Aquilio and the Corno Mozzo, mountain peaks located respectively at 1546 and 1534 meters above sea level. Of great naturalistic interest, near the Corno d'Aquilio, is one ofthe deepest Karstic abysses in the world, la Spluga della Preta, a destination not to be missed for whoever is interested in spelunking.
